The Wild Mushroom’s main building, built at the beginning of the 20th century, was originally the Digteby farmhouse. Its last agricultural use was as a gladioli farm, before it fell into disuse. In the nineteen-nineties the main building was used for storage while the outbuildings were used as very inexpensive accommodation for Stellenbosch University students. One of the students discovered that the main building was full of freezers and these were full of smuggled abalone / perlemoen!

The prize-winning architect Hein Visser brilliantly restored the old manor house with its typical elements from the late Herbert Baker era. The design and dimensions of the building were retained and the original walls, roof beams, doorframes, sash windows and solid kiaat doors revive a bygone era. The arched “stoep” offers an peaceful spot with an unobstructed view of the blue Boland Mountains.
There are seven en-suite bedrooms in the century old manor house. At the poolside, a building originally constructed as a high-tech mushroom growing facility, has been converted into a most luxurious suite. Additionally there are two junior suites in the annex,
